We’re thrilled to be part of the TerraCycle Public Drop-Off Network and provide a convenient place for Brisbanites to leave their oral care products for recycling.
The good news is we all can do our little bit to make a difference.
We have joined the Colgate & TerraCycle oral care recycling program to help repurpose what would have gone into landfill. These can become any products made from recycled plastic.
Stop your toothbrushes from going to landfill
More than 30 thousand toothbrushes end up in landfill each year. Add thousands of other used oral care products, and Australians create more than 1000 tonnes of oral care waste in landfill.
“The products are melted down and turned into a liquid which is then put through a pelletiser and it’s turned into little plastic pellets. Those pellets can then be used to create plastic manufacturing materials like lumbers or park benches. We even did a whole playground over in the United States made of oral care waste.”Gemma Kaczerepa, TerraCycle
The TerraCycle program also allows us to give back to our community. The weight of waste is converted into points which are then redeemed for a payment to a non-profit organisation or school of choice.
You can find our collection bin in the reception area, right inside our front door.
TerraCycle recycle products include:
- Toothpaste tubes & caps
- Dental floss containers
- Electric toothbrush heads
You can recycle the cardboard packaging for many of those items in your recycling bin at home.
How our business helps the environment
As a dental practice, we consume a substantial of single-use medical products to ensure the best hygiene for our patients.
To ensure our own impact on landfill is minimised, we recycle around 30% of our daily business waste, including:
- plastic cups
- coffee pods
- old hand instruments
- outdated medical equipment
- cardboard packages
We have also reviewed and reduced our water usage, switched to energy efficient lighting, and go paperless whenever possible.
